robin.* war ursprünglich die lokale Hierarchie des RoBIN e.V. (Rodgau Box Information Network), der seinen Betrieb im Jahr 2000 eingestellt hat. Die Hierarchie ist auf news.ping.de, dem Newsserver von von PING e.V., weiter verfügbar.
PING hat zudem die eigene Hierachie ping.*.
